Used 7-Seaters Under £10,000: A Dealer's Honest Guide
The seven-seat MPVs and SUVs we sell in Nuneaton: why each makes the list, the honest downsides, third-row checks and running costs
The short answer: under £10,000, the used 7-seaters worth shortlisting are older MPVs such as the Ford S-Max and Citroen Grand C4 Picasso or SpaceTourer; the Peugeot 5008 or Kia Sorento if you want an automatic for less; and the Land Rover Discovery Sport or Range Rover Sport if you want a 4WD SUV. Every 7-seater under £10,000 on our forecourt on 29 September 2026 was more than five years old with over 90,000 miles, so the individual car's history matters more than the badge. Below: why each model is on the list, the downsides, third-row checks and tax.
Used 7-seaters by budget
The bands show what is typically on our forecourt in September 2026, not prices for individual cars.
Under £5,000
- Ford S-Max: a seven-seat MPV.
- Citroen Grand C4 Picasso and Grand C4 SpaceTourer: seven-seat MPVs; our SpaceTourer lists "Individual Rear Seats" and "ISOFIX Anchor Points".
£5,000 to £7,000
- Peugeot 5008 automatic: an MPV that can be cheap to tax (band C, £35 a year, for a 2015 1.6 BlueHDi automatic at 114 g/km).
- Kia Sorento automatic: our Sorento adverts list "4 Wheel Drive" and "7 Seats".
£7,000 to £10,000
- Land Rover Discovery Sport: ours are 4WD, with SUV ride height, but it has the weakest What Car? reliability score of the models here.
- Range Rover Sport: luxury and 4WD, but the highest tax of our examples.
If reliability comes first
The Hyundai Santa Fe (2018-2024, 100%) and Skoda Kodiaq diesel (97.8%) top What Car?'s 7-seater reliability rankings. We had no Santa Fe in stock in September 2026, and our Kodiaqs all sat above this budget, but both are worth a look. The Dacia Jogger (2022-present), which What Car? calls "the cheapest seven-seat MPV you can buy new", scored 91.5%, level with the 2017-2024 Peugeot 5008; we had no Jogger in stock either.
7-seat MPV or SUV: which suits you?
On the MPV side, the SpaceTourer in our stock box lists "Individual Rear Seats", and in our tax examples below the two MPVs cost less to tax than the two SUVs. SUVs give you a higher ride height, and some have 4WD: every Sorento, Discovery Sport and Range Rover Sport on our forecourt in September 2026 had it. One point against MPVs: What Car? says MPVs generally score lower than seven-seat SUVs in its reliability survey.
The third row: what to check
Some third rows are "+2" seats best kept for children or short trips; others are closer to full-size. The only way to know is to try it.
- Bring your child seats to the viewing and fit them in the rows you'll use.
- Check the handbook for which positions have ISOFIX points. Don't assume the third row has them.
- Climb into the third row yourself, then see what boot space is left with it raised.
Not every car of a given model has seven seats, so check the advert or ask us. Every car in the box below is listed with 7 seats.
Used 7-seaters under £10,000: why each model is on the list
Ford S-Max
Why it's on the list: it's a seven-seat MPV at the bottom of our budget bands. The downside is age: at this money, expect an older car with high mileage. A 2013 S-Max 2.0 TDCi at 139 g/km is in tax band E, £200 a year. The S-Max isn't in What Car?'s 7-seater rankings, so the car's own service history and MOT record are your best guide.
Citroen Grand C4 Picasso and Grand C4 SpaceTourer
Why it's on the list: a seven-seat MPV with family-friendly features. Our 2018 SpaceTourer lists "Individual Rear Seats" and "ISOFIX Anchor Points", and because it was first registered after 1 April 2017 it pays the standard £200 a year in tax rather than a CO2 band rate. The downside: neither Citroen appears in What Car?'s 7-seater rankings, and MPVs generally score lower there, so judge each car on its history. See our used Citroens.
Peugeot 5008
Why it's on the list: a seven-seater you can find as an automatic, and it can be cheap to tax. A 2015 1.6 BlueHDi automatic at 114 g/km is in band C, £35 a year, the lowest of our examples. Be aware the 5008 changed shape: What Car? explains the second-generation car (2017-2024) turned from a boxy MPV into an SUV, and that version scored 91.5% in its survey. A 2015 5008 is the earlier MPV shape, which the survey doesn't cover.
Kia Sorento
Why it's on the list: an automatic gearbox, 4WD and seven seats together. The Sorentos in our listings are automatics, and their adverts list "4 Wheel Drive" and "7 Seats". The downsides: a 2013 2.2 CRDi at 178 g/km is in tax band I, £360 a year. And the Sorento's 94.8% in What Car?'s survey is for the 2020-onwards model, not the 2013 cars we have. See our used Kias.
Land Rover Discovery Sport
Why it's on the list: SUV ride height with seven seats, and every Discovery Sport on our forecourt in September 2026 had 4WD. Our 2018 HSE Dynamic Luxury is an automatic and lists "7 Seats" and "4 Wheel Drive". The downside is reliability: it's the second least reliable 7-seater in What Car?'s survey, at 81.8%. Our Discovery Sports under £10,000 in September 2026 were 2015 to 2018 cars, older than the survey covers, but it's still a reason to insist on a full history. See our used Land Rovers.
Range Rover Sport
Why it's on the list: luxury, 4WD and seven seats at the top of the budget. The one on our forecourt in September 2026 lists "7 Seats" and "4 Wheel Drive". The downsides are running costs and weight: a 2014 SDV6 at 199 g/km is in tax band J, £410 a year, the highest of our examples, and heavy SUVs are hard on tyres and brakes. It isn't in What Car?'s 7-seater rankings, so the history is everything.
If you can go over £10,000
These all sit above this budget on our forecourt in September 2026:
- Skoda Kodiaq: the diesel scored 97.8% in What Car?'s survey (used Skodas).
- Volvo XC90: 90.9% for the 2015-2025 model (used Volvos).
- Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: ours are automatics listed with 7 seats (used Volkswagens).
- BMW X5: ours is an automatic listed with 7 seats (used BMWs).
How reliable are used 7-seaters?
The What Car? Reliability Survey (updated 28 May 2026) asks owners to rate cars up to five years old. Seven-seaters averaged 90.3%, one of the lowest-scoring classes in the survey. Its scores for models in this guide:
- Hyundai Santa Fe (2018-2024): 100%
- Skoda Kodiaq diesel (2016-2024): 97.8%
- Kia Sorento (2020-present): 94.8%
- Peugeot 5008 (2017-2024): 91.5%
- Dacia Jogger (2022-present): 91.5%
- Volvo XC90 (2015-2025): 90.9%
- Land Rover Discovery Sport (2014-present): 81.8%, the second least reliable 7-seater in the survey
The dealer point: every 7-seater under £10,000 on our forecourt in September 2026 was older than the survey covers, and some were earlier generations: our Sorentos were 2013 cars, and a 2015 5008 is the earlier MPV shape. So the individual car's service history and MOT record tell you more than any league table. Our guide to buying a high-mileage diesel explains how to judge both.
What to check on any used 7-seater
- Every rear seat folds and locks, and every third-row belt works.
- Rear climate controls work, if fitted.
- The tailgate opens, closes and stays up.
- Tyres and brakes, especially on heavy SUVs.
- Every electrical item, including the infotainment screen. What Car?'s survey found electrical faults, including infotainment problems, are the most common on seven-seaters.
- Cambelt or timing chain: find out which the engine has, and ask for proof of any replacement.
- DPF (diesel particulate filter) health on cars that have mostly done school runs.
- The MOT history on GOV.UK: results and the mileage at each test, for tests in England, Scotland and Wales since 2005 and Northern Ireland since 2017.
Running costs: road tax and clean air zones
Cars first registered 1 March 2001 to 31 March 2017
These are taxed by CO2 band (GOV.UK vehicle tax bands). Examples from our own cars' data, at the single 12-month rate:
| Car | CO2 | Band | Tax a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2015 Peugeot 5008 1.6 BlueHDi automatic | 114 g/km | C | £35 |
| 2013 Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCi | 139 g/km | E | £200 |
| 2013 Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDi | 178 g/km | I | £360 |
| 2014 Range Rover Sport SDV6 | 199 g/km | J | £410 |
Cars first registered from 1 April 2017
After the first year, these pay the standard rate of £200 a year. If the list price was over £40,000 (petrol or diesel), add £440 a year for five years from the second time the car is taxed (GOV.UK). On a 2018 car such as our Discovery Sport, that five-year period has already ended.
Clean air zones
Among England's clean air zones, only Birmingham and Bristol (Class D) charge private cars. The standard is Euro 6 for diesel and Euro 4 for petrol (GOV.UK). Birmingham charges £8 a day for cars (Brum Breathes, checked 29 September 2026). Birmingham's is the nearer of the two to Nuneaton.
Some older diesels, including some of ours, are Euro 5, so if you drive into these zones, check the registration on the GOV.UK clean air zone checker before you buy. For London's ULEZ, use the TfL vehicle checker, because the GOV.UK checker doesn't cover London.

Frequently asked questions
What's the cheapest used 7-seater?
On our forecourt it's typically an older MPV such as the Ford S-Max or Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, which sat in our under-£5,000 band in September 2026. Expect high mileage, and let the service history guide you.
Can I get an automatic 7-seater for under £10,000?
Yes. The Peugeot 5008, Kia Sorento and Land Rover Discovery Sport automatics typically sit under £10,000 on our forecourt in September 2026. See our 7-seaters under £10,000.
Which used 7-seater is cheapest to tax?
Of the examples in our tax table, the 2015 Peugeot 5008 1.6 BlueHDi automatic at 114 g/km: band C, £35 a year. A car first registered from 1 April 2017 pays the standard £200 a year after its first year, plus £440 a year for five years from the second time it's taxed if it's a petrol or diesel with a list price over £40,000 (GOV.UK). So an older car with low CO2 can cost less to tax than a newer one.
Which used 7-seaters are the most reliable?
In What Car?'s survey, the Hyundai Santa Fe (2018-2024) scored 100% and the Skoda Kodiaq diesel 97.8%. It only covers cars up to five years old, so for an older car, its own history and MOT record matter more.
